FAQ

FAQ

My American University offers a health insurance plan; can I choose a different one?
Yes. In most cases, even if your university already provides health insurance, you can opt for an external plan through the "waiver" process (see the "Waiver" section below). I offer solutions that are accepted by the vast majority of U.S. universities, even those with very strict requirements. The process is straightforward: I will explain everything in detail and guide you through every step.
My American University requires an "ACA-compliant" plan; what are my options?
It is common for U.S. universities to require an "ACA-compliant" plan for enrollment. I offer a plan specifically designed for this situation. It is an ACA-compliant plan that meets the most demanding criteria and, as an added bonus, provides international coverage. This is a unique offer provided by a single insurer. "ACA-compliant" does not mean you are forced to take the university’s plan, which is often extremely expensive. There is a highly competitive alternative, and I am here to help you find the best solution.
Can my American University reject my external health insurance plan?
Yes, it is possible. Universities sometimes reject alternative solutions either because they do not meet their specific requirements regarding benefits and coverage limits, or, more rarely, because they have exclusive partnerships with an insurance agent and systematically refuse external plans. I maintain a list of U.S. universities that accept external plans and those that do not. Feel free to consult me; we can check in advance if it is feasible for your school.
What should I do in a medical emergency if I don’t speak the local language?
If you cannot communicate in the local language, you should call the 24/7 assistance number found on your insurance card, mobile app, or member portal. I recommend saving this number in your phone or keeping your insurance card with you at all times. This service is specifically designed for these situations and allows you to speak in the language of your choice. The assistance team will arrange transport to the hospital and, if necessary, translate your symptoms for the doctors.
I never go to the doctor; do I still need international insurance?
Yes. Even if you rarely visit a GP, you are not immune to medical emergencies or accidents (food poisoning, fractures, etc.). It is imperative to have a policy that at least covers hospitalization, ensuring that ambulance transport and day-patient care are included. I am here to guide you through the various options.
Do I have to pay upfront?
Generally, all international policies provide direct payment for hospitalizations. For other expenses, such as GP visits or pharmacy costs, it depends on your specific plan and the country you are in. If you do have to pay upfront, I select insurers that offer reimbursements within 48 hours via digital services (uploading invoices through an app) to make the process as easy as possible. My role is to direct you toward the most optimized contract.
What is a "WAIVER"?
In the United States, a "waiver" is the official exemption process where you request permission from your university to opt-out of their mandatory health insurance. Most U.S. universities automatically enroll students in their own plans, which are often very expensive. If you prefer a more affordable insurance (with the same level of coverage), you must submit a "waiver" to prove your alternative coverage is sufficient. I will assist you with this process.
Why should I request a "WAIVER"?
The main reason is financial. University-sponsored insurance plans are excellent but extremely expensive. By choosing a private plan certified for international students, you can often cut the cost by half or even two-thirds, while still respecting the university’s criteria and maintaining solid coverage.
How do I request a "WAIVER"?
The process usually follows these steps: Check the criteria: The university publishes a list of minimum requirements (e.g., unlimited coverage, mental health care, repatriation). Purchase alternative insurance: You sign up for an external plan that ticks all the university's boxes (I have the perfect solution for this). Submit the form: You fill out the waiver form on the university portal and upload your insurance certificate. Validation: The university reviews your documents. If approved, the insurance fees are removed from your Tuition Bill. Note: In the rare event of a refusal, you will be fully reimbursed for the external plan purchased. I will guide you through this entire process.
My university in Australia requires specific insurance that doesn't cover repatriation. What should I do?
Australia requires a very specific system called OSHC (Overseas Student Health Cover). You must purchase this type of insurance, usually through the university, to obtain your visa and enroll. To supplement this plan—specifically for Repatriation and Personal Liability, which are often missing from OSHC contracts—you can take out an international insurance policy. I can help you find the right top-up coverage.
I am going to study in Europe; is the EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) enough?
The EHIC (French: CEAM) allows you to access public healthcare in the host country at the same rates as locals. In some countries, it covers costs upfront; in others, you must pay and request reimbursement later. However, the EHIC does not cover medical repatriation, personal liability, or private sector care, which would remain at your expense. For optimal coverage, an international health insurance plan is highly recommended.
