FAQ

FAQ

How do I sign up for international health insurance?
How do I sign up for international health insurance? The application process is 100% digital. I will send you an online link to apply; once completed, you will receive your policy and all necessary documents (certificate, insurance card, etc.) via email. No paperwork is sent by mail. I am here to guide you through the application process if needed.
When should I apply for an international policy?
If you are traveling for the short term (12 months or less), you can technically apply until the day before your departure. However, I recommend doing it earlier, as you can schedule the start date in advance. This helps avoid last-minute stress or technical issues. If you are traveling for the long term, you should submit your application at least one week before departure. This is because a medical questionnaire is required and must be reviewed by the insurance company’s medical board.
Why do I need specific insurance while abroad?
For financial protection: Medical costs abroad (especially in the US) can be staggering. Insurance prevents a simple hospitalization from turning into a debt of tens of thousands of euros. To guarantee access to care: In many countries, hospitals require proof of insurance or payment before admission. Without it, you risk being denied treatment. For medical evacuation (Repatriation): In the event of a serious accident, the insurance organizes and funds your medical return to France—an operation that can cost over €100,000 and is never covered by the State. For Personal Liability: It covers you if you accidentally cause bodily injury or property damage to others, protecting you against very expensive legal proceedings abroad.
What should I do in a medical emergency if I don't speak the local language?
If you cannot communicate in the local language, you must call the 24/7 assistance number found on your insurance card, mobile app, or member portal. I strongly advise saving this number in your phone or always carrying your card with you. This service is specifically designed for these situations and allows you to speak in the language of your choice. The assistance team will arrange your transport to the hospital and, if necessary, translate your symptoms for the doctors.
I never go to the doctor; do I still need international insurance?
Yes. Even if you rarely visit a GP, no one is immune to emergencies or accidents (food poisoning, fractures, etc.). It is imperative to have a policy that at least covers hospitalization, ensuring that ambulance transport and day-patient care are included. I am here to guide you through the best "emergency-only" options.
Do I have to pay upfront?
Generally, all international policies provide direct payment for hospitalizations. For other expenses, such as GP visits or pharmacy costs, it depends on your specific plan and the country you are in. If you do have to pay upfront, I select insurers that offer reimbursements within 48 hours via digital services (uploading invoices through an app) to make the process as easy as possible. My role is to direct you toward the most optimized contract.
Aren't Social Security and/or credit card insurance enough?
No. The Social Security reimbursements are based on French rates. For a $250 doctor's visit in the US, they may only reimburse you €20. Furthermore, they do not pay upfront, and coverage usually stops after 90 days abroad. Credit card insurance is often capped at low amounts and provides insufficient coverage for long stays. In many cases, it is only a temporary "advance" that you must pay back later. For a worry-free stay, specific international insurance is essential.
