FAQ
FAQ
Why do I need insurance if I already have Social Security or a private mutual fund?
The French Social Security system is designed for the French healthcare system. Outside of Europe, reimbursements are based on French rates, which are often very low.
The Problem: If you pay $200 for a consultation in the USA, the CPAM (French Social Security) will only reimburse you based on the French standard rate of €26.50, which is about $28.
The Delays: Reimbursements from the CPAM for expenses abroad can take several months and are never guaranteed.
The "Mutuelle": Most standard French mutual funds do not cover expenses abroad, or only up to the French Social Security limit.
The plans I offer are specifically designed to cover your actual costs incurred on-site, without being limited by French reimbursement scales.
What is Personal Liability insurance abroad, and why do I need it while traveling?
Personal Liability (RC) protects you if you unintentionally cause damage to a third party or their property.
Examples: You accidentally injure someone while cycling, you trip in your hotel room and break a glass shower door, or your children accidentally damage property in an Airbnb.
The Importance: Abroad, especially in English-speaking countries, legal fees and compensation claims can be astronomical. Personal Liability coverage handles the repairs and financial consequences of these damages, protecting you from personal bankruptcy.
Which expenses are covered by my international policy?
International insurance plans are modular. They cover all healthcare costs incurred in case of an emergency, accident, or unexpected illness. This includes:
Hospitalization
Routine Medicine (GP visits, specialists)
Prescription Drugs (Pharmacy)
Medical Repatriation
You can also add optional coverage such as lost luggage, sports equipment, and more. I am here to help you find the solution best suited to your trip.
What should I do in a medical emergency if I don’t speak the local language?
If you cannot communicate in the local language, you should call the 24/7 assistance number found on your insurance card, mobile app, or member portal. I recommend saving this number in your phone or keeping your insurance card with you at all times. This service is specifically designed for these situations and allows you to speak in the language of your choice. The assistance team will arrange transport to the hospital and, if necessary, translate your symptoms for the doctors.
Do I have to pay upfront?
Generally, all international policies provide direct payment for hospitalizations. For other expenses, such as GP visits or pharmacy costs, it depends on your specific plan and the country you are in. If you do have to pay upfront, I select insurers that offer reimbursements within 48 hours via digital services (uploading invoices through an app) to make the process as easy as possible. My role is to direct you toward the most optimized contract.
